With the global economic crisis that has befallen us, it is important to understand credit card fundamentals to deal with income issues. If you have debts associated with the use of these cards, the situation can turn difficult due to different reasons. These may include a family death, loss of job, illness or even personal bankruptcy.

However, despite all these problems, it is not the end of the world if you have amassed a mountain of debt with the cards. Credit card companies are willing to help you, given the right conditions. You will need to be pro-active in looking for assistance by approaching them when the need arises.

One of the methods they can provide relief is through debt consolidation. There are debt consolidation companies that are not adverse to providing advice and direct help for individuals who are having difficulties paying off their bills each month. It just needs you to make a call to one of them and find out what the details are.

Again, do not wait for things to come to you. It is always better to initiate the discussions, to show the credit card companies that you are controlling your finances. This might help to persuade them to be more open to deals made in your favor, such as having 0% interest rates till a certain level of the debt has been serviced.

If you are worried about being rejected by the companies, be assured that very few of them will do that. The credit crunch that has enveloped the world has put a strain on credit availability to all businesses in the world. Credit card companies, more than anyone, will be keen to acquire fresh flow of credit, especially through possible delinquent debts.

Do not go into discussions blindly. Provide a sound plan that can be managed by both sides, while giving you some leverage to ask for a better deal through lower interest rates or smaller periodic payments. This can only be better understood when you know your financial situation clearly.

Once you have drawn up a plan with a clear budget, the next step would be to engage the credit card companies on a finalized payment arrangement. Do not hesitate to ask for good terms that will help you manage your situation comfortably. If you are keen to regain your current credit card status, then work towards having a comparable income level while reducing your debt considerably.

Credit card companies will always be more willing to recoup all their debt instead of writing them off. The important thing is to understand your own financial means and the current economy, which will allow both sides to agree on a compromised debt repayment plan. There is always help available and you should never assume bankruptcy is the only option.

You can be a newbie credit card user or you can be an old pro in the credit card game, you should still be aware of the various scams that can come your way. While there are plenty of trustworthy credit card companies, there are also those shady ones who want to take your money.

If you don’t have the slightest idea of how easily you can be duped by these con artists, you could lose several hundred dollars or more. Read about these vicious credit card scams and learn how to spot – and prevent – a potential rip-off.

Suspension of debt service

Banks sometimes provide debt suspension offers as a service to “assist” you to be up-to-date with your card payments. In this scheme, you need to pay a fixed monthly amount so in the event you fail to pay your bills, interest will not accrue throughout this period.

While this sounds too good to be true initially, the scheme really aims to fleece its victim. You’re disallowed to use your card if you’re unemployed, and while no interest has accumulated, your balance stays unpaid and you still have to pay it when you find work again. What happened is you’ve been paying for something that won’t be of much use to you.

If you’re offered a credit card, first verify that a debt suspension offer of this kind is not inserted in the agreement as this will cost you later. If it is included, then have it taken out and get a standalone insurance policy to assist in your bill payments in the event you are unemployed.

Advance approval fees

This scam is one of the worst there is and the victims are people who are in dire need of a card that has great rates. The “operator” will provide you with such a card but you need to pay an approval or administration fee in advance for your application to be processed.

Once you have been divested of this fee, the company will simply run away with your hard-earned money. If you are offered a credit card which asks for an advanced approval payment, just turn it down. Even borrowers with bad credits don’t need to pay in advance for cards. The lenders can only accept or turn down applications, and no fees are required.

Credit card protection

Another common scam that has claimed a lot of victims is giving your card credit protection in the event it is lost or stolen. The premium for this added safeguard is often very high but offers very little protection.

If you are quick in reporting a stolen credit card, then you don’t stand to lose much, and you are further covered by other consumer laws and insurance. If protection is really needed, then get a standalone policy from another company which can be less expensive and lets you cover all your cards simultaneously.

Getting a credit card requires a lot of checking and understanding of the clauses within the contract before signing. If something seems fishy, then decline the contract and look for another company to deal with. Be sure to know the pitfalls of the game and you’ll eventually find a respectable credit card company where you can get great rates.

A gas rebate card may seem like they are saving you money on gas but you need to understand how they work and read all of the fine print. The introductory offers are always quite good but once those offers end you will need to get a bit creative to keep receiving good rebates using a gas card. The main point of the gas rebate card is that you can save when buying gas from specific gas stations or retailers.

Many times a gas rebate card will offer savings of between 5-6% as an introductory offer. However for the vast majority of all cards this savings will only apply for the first few months. Then after that period is over the savings will drop to between 2-3%. The terms and conditions are also variable as they are not fixed and they can change on you in an instant. Make sure you read all of the terms and conditions before accepting the card.

Many time gas rebate cards are only good at certain gas stations. To get the full amount in savings you will always need to go to a mobile or Shell, depending on your card. You should also look at the interest rates associated with your gas rebate card, as they tend to be higher. If you plan on carrying a balance then you do it on another card with lower interest.

Many times you will have to make a request for the rebate and if you do not request it then you it can disappear after about 6 months. It is possible to be creative and save quite a bit on gas but this can take some time to figure out.

It is possible to get some good savings from gas rebate cards but you will have to be very creative, such as purchasing a pre-paid discounted gas card using your gas rebate card, so you get a combined savings on gas.

Low APR credit cards are offered to consumers who have very good to excellent credit histories. These cards have low interest rates as the name suggests as well as offering many other benefits which you may think of as a reward for your history of fiscal responsibility. These are the most desirable kind of credit card and offer perks which include:

*Up 5% cash back on select purchases
*0% APR introductory periods on many offers
*APRs as low as 7.99% after the introductory period has concluded
*No annual fees
*Rewards programs tailored to your preferences

These are just a few of the benefits available to the users of these credit cards. If your credit history is good, then you can choose from a lot of different offers. Credit card companies prefer cardholders who pay their bills on time each month and keep their balances to less than 50% of their credit limit.

Whenever looking at a credit card offer, you should carefully read the terms and conditions along with the perks and benefits. Doing so will help you to get the best low interest rate credit card. All of the major credit card issuers: Chase Manhattan, Discover and American Express, among others offer low APR cards to consumers who meet the necessary qualifications.

So how good is your credit score? If your credit score is excellent or close to excellent, then you can take advantage of the incredible rewards programs that Chase, American Express, Capital One and Discover provide to people who use their credit cards; a great argument for keeping your credit score high.

Its tough to keep up with all of your payments, making them on time each month – and it can be hard to resist overspending when you have a credit card! Credit card issuers know this too and they show responsible customers how much they value them by offering these low APR credit cards.

As if a low APR wasn’t already incentive enough, these offers provide cardholders with rewards programs which improve on an already good thing, such as cash back (sometimes as high a 20%) on select purchases from retailers all over the country and travel rewards. Travel rewards let you earn points which are redeemable for travel expenses such as car rentals, plane tickets, hotels and more!

Do you have a good credit history? Request a copy of your credit report to find out. If your credit is very good to excellent, then you can apply for a low interest credit card and reap the rewards you have coming for your responsible credit management.

Back in the day we were probably very excited about our firsts: credit card, apartment, car. We were grown up and able to carefully manage our money. In a period of time, we began to make more money, got more credit cards, maybe a house with a mortgage. We might have started to believe that we were doing really well, increasing use of inappropriate money handling. Credit repair is a looming need.

One day we realize that something isn’t right with our finances. We might notice that our credit card balances are exorbitant. Perhaps we can’t make some important payments. There might be a crisis that forces us to examine our finances, like serious illness, or job loss. When there is this kind of event in our lives, we need credit repair.

We need to thoroughly investigate our finances, figure out where we are making money mistakes and develop a plan to remediate the serious situation. First of all, are we spending more than we make? Yes, it can easily happen particularly when we have available credit, loan options, generous families, or ability to borrow from a savings account. Before we know it, we might be living a lifestyle that we cannot afford. You need credit repair.

Sometimes, we become adept at manipulating our finances by paying usual bills like utilities, phone by using credit when we should b e paying cash. Credit repair is needed.

When we need money for the usual, everyday expenses, like food, clothes, gas, etc, we should be using our cash. It’s not helpful to use credit for things that will be already used by the time you get the bill. This is especially true if you don’t pay credit card bills in full each month.

Perhaps many of us like the feeling of cash in our pockets, so we will use credit even when we have the cash. This habit can also contribute to careless payment habits. Then we’re surprised when our cards are at the “max.” Then the pattern of paying some bills and ignoring to “catch up” can begin. We are moving into financial crisis. You need credit repair.

If we are using one credit card to pay another, transferring balances, getting more loans, we incur charges and don ‘t solve the problem. Credit repair is needed.

So, if you recognize your financial habits here, you will know that you need to seriously take a look at your debt and spending habits. You need credit repair and debt management ASAP.

In these uncertain times in spite of a poor credit score it is still feasible for someone to obtain a credit card from the mass that currently exist in this competitive market. The primary two credit card suppliers by and large the best to try if you find yourself in a bad credit state of affairs are Visa and Mastercard. Obviously your main concern will be, what ensures a poor credit Mastercard a more advisable choice to apply for over Visa?

Establishments across the world take both forms of credit card and although Visa was considered to have a larger number outlets, that is no longer the situation as these are now closely matched. So much so in fact, in numerous cases it is often Mastercard that is recognised more readily and accepted in establishments. There is every possibility the advantages of both will be pretty much in-line with the other cards, they will more than likely learn that the interest fee charged by the two financial institutions will be more than normal. Providing the person issued with it uses the Mastercard reasonably and to ensure the monthly repayments are made on time (whenever possible more than the minimum amount), they are likely to begin to see their credit history repair itself in a relatively short amount of time. Conducting your affairs this way may mean you will also have a reduction in the interest rate you would normally pay once the credit balance is clear.

Generally with any financial agreement, it is always best to look through the terms and conditions you must abide by when you are trying for a bad credit, credit card. Like virtually every subject you care to mention these days, the fastest way to learn more and study the options you may have is to take a look online. Individuals with an adverse credit record can see exactly which companies will supply a Mastercard to someone in this predicament.

Because there is more than one that you may be entitled to apply for it is to your advantage that you are aware of exactly what benefits they offer so that’s what we will do right now:

When you use this card, reports are transmitted to the three important credit accounting bureaus on how responsibly you are utilising your card that allows a continual method of correcting your credit history. More than this, if a person looks after their credit card in a responsible manner, paying regular installments that are sent before the cut off date, it is quite normal for the credit card supplier to give them more to spend in recognition of this.

A huge advantage to applying for this card is that, strangely, they do not ask for any one-off fees from the person applying but still supply protective covering for any anything you purchase on it. This credit card, just like the Continental Finance Gold Mastercard, reports frequently to the three credit authorities which can rapidly amend your record. Two other advantages to this particular card over others includes the competitive APR it enforces and a much lower annual fee which can be of fantastic help to those who are financially embarrassed.

Poor credit cards are quickly becoming one of the top ways to get yourself out of debt, and if you are having financial difficulties, it is definitely going to be something that you will want to consider for yourself.

Make sure that you know what poor credit cards are. They are essentially secured cards or prepaid cards that you can apply for. With the small amount that is on them, you will be able to have it paid off every month, quickly and easily.

You may be wondering why you would want to take out a card when there are other cards that you need to pay off. If you have creditors at the door or collection agencies that simply won’t leave you alone, it feels like getting another card is the last thing that you want. However, a little reflection will tell you precisely why this can be the best thing that you do for your credit.

1.Remember that your credit history is not changing any time fast.

If you have a low credit score, you will find that it can take you ages to fix it. Your only options are generally to wait it out. While it might seem that building up good credit is something that needs to wait until you are out of debt, poor credit cards can help you out. While you are in debt, you will find that having one of these cards will help you start repairing your credit rating right away, rather than waiting the years that it might take before you are even back to good starting point.

2.Figure out where you are starting from

The more you know about your own financial situation, the better off you are going to be. Remember that many states are required to give you a credit score upon request, and at the end of the day, you are going to need to think about what you can do with it. Always know where you stand financially. In some cases, it may not be nearly as bad as you think

3.Have a plan

When you want to get out of debt, remember that you need a plan. There are a number of ways for you to get ahead with poor credit cards, but remember that a plan is very important. Consider putting your bills on the card, as you will know what is coming due at the end of every month. Remember that the fewer surprises you have to deal with, the better off you are going to be.

Remember that poor credit cards can help you out quite a lot. If you are looking over your credit card solution and not liking what you see, it is time to find out what options are going to be open to you.

Online merchants and shoppers constantly have to be alert to the dangers of identity theft and fraud. It is simply too easy for someone to grab an unsuspecting individual’s credit card information and reek havoc before anything can be done to stop them. Those who use Visa cards, whether credit or debit cards, have the option to add a layer of protection to their card with the Verified by Visa program. Understanding this program is important to both retailers and shoppers, as it has implications for both parties.

How Verified by Visa Works for Consumers Consumers who wish to use the Verified by Visa program start by activating their cards. Then, when they are shopping online with a participating retailer, a special Verified by Visa window will pop up automatically. This is where the additional security comes into play, because the credit card user will create a special password to enter into this screen. The screen will also have a Personal Message, something that the cardholder chooses at activation, and this helps the consumer verity that the box is the actual Verified by Visa box and not a scam.

How does this add protection? Well, if you are a Verified by Visa member, it will be harder for someone else to make purchases online using your stolen credit card information. If someone knows your credit card number, chances are fairly remote he will also know your password, so he will be unable to use your card and the payments will be denied.

There is no cost for the Verified by Visa program. Any Visa card can be enrolled in the program, with a few exceptions. The official Visa website has a form cardholders can use to see if their card is eligible for the program. However, do not enroll in this program unless you are on the actual Visa website. There are many scams out there looking to steal your credit card number by posing as the Verified by Visa program.

When you wish to use the Verified by Visa program to add security to your online shopping, simply look for retailers that offer the Verified by Visa program. You do not have to do anything special, as the Verified by Visa window will pop up automatically as you check out. You will know the retailer is a participating retailer by looking for the Verified by Visa logo on the website.

How Verified by Visa Works for Merchants If you are an online merchant you may wish to consider adding the Verified by Visa option to your website before . The most obvious reason to do this is to give your customers added protection from fraud, which can increase your sales among Visa cardholders. However, there are other benefits for merchants who participate.

The Verified by Visa program actually protects merchants just as it does consumers. All Visa card transactions handled by participating merchants are protected from fraud-related charge backs, even if the cardholder does not participate in the program. Also, transactions that are made using the Verified by Visa program are charged a discounted transaction fee in most situations, although this can vary depending on the arrangements that the merchant and the bank have.

Implementing the program is easy. All you have to do is install the software onto your server, and then all of your consumers will be protected if they participate in the program. The software also gives you the Verified by Visa logo to add to your site, showing your consumers that you have the program.

Whether you are a merchant or a consumer, the Verified by Visa program adds security and peace of mind to the online shopping experience. As with any similar program, there are scams out there that mimic the program but are looking to take your personal information. To avoid these problems, work directly with Visa or your bank when activating your card or implementing this program onto your website.

by James Noon

A New Year has brought no promise of respite from the current financial crisis and the credit crunch appears to be still in full swing. With the financial forecast still pretty gloomy as we head into 2009, its chilly winds are affecting not just big business, but ordinary consumers as well. However, a new year opens up a new opportunity to take control of your finances and despite the doom-laden headlines there are still plenty of financial bargains to be had if you know where to look.

The number of 0% credit cards has shrunk noticeably in comparison to January of last year, with the credit card companies tightening up on their criteria and reducing their market exposure and the risk of potential bad debt. Despite this ‘market readjustment’ though, there are still bargains to be had with some banks and financial institutions even advertising ‘Sales’ in a bid to lure in discerning customers. Right now, it is very much a consumers market, and savvy customers can take advantage of a market thats eager to keep its share of the economy. There are still 0% balance transfer cards out there; admittedly they’re harder to come by but they do exist. The major difference to last year is that credit card companies are being much more stringent in their definition of a ‘good’ customer, so it pays to check that your credit history is correct and up to date before applying for a balance transfer card. Even a slight discrepancy could scuttle your chances of successfully taking advantage of the tempting offers that are available. If you have a poor credit history, the first half of 2009 would probably be better spent in addressing this and making sure that when you do apply you have a better chance of being accepted.

There are a few things to take into consideration when looking at balance transfer cards. Firstly, be aware that you will be required to pay a transfer fee to move an outstanding debt from one card to another. This is normally around 3% of the total transfer, but some credit card companies have a minimum fee, regardless of the amount transferred. You need to include this figure in your initial calculations.

Secondly, not all 0% balance transfer credit cards are interest free for purchases as well. This backs up the golden rule of credit card transfers ” never use the card for purchases as well as transfers. The amount you pay off each month on the new card will go to pay off the most recent transactions, rather than the initial balance transfer. So if you use the card for purchases as well you could find yourself running out of time to take advantage of the 0% offer on the initial transfer. It also means that you could end up paying interest on your transfer ” something you wanted to avoid doing in the first place.

Some cards do offer dual functions ” 0% on balance transfers and 0% (usually for a much shorter period of time) on purchases. However, once the purchases deal runs its course, you may discover that the payments you make go to pay off the balance transfer, rather than the interest on outstanding purchases. This is known as ‘negative payment hierarchy’, with payments being used to clear the balances attracting the lowest interest rate first (the remaining time on your 0% balance transfer) and not your recent purchases. This could result in customers paying the full interest charge on purchases (usually around 18% but some can be much higher). It’s the polar opposite of the previous conundrum, but still reinforces the adage ” keep your balance transfers and your purchases on separate cards.

Once you’ve decided (wisely) to keep your cards separate, work out how much you can expect to pay each month and how much you will need to pay to clear off the balance transfer amount before the interest free period ends. Dont forget to factor in additional charges such as insurance (sometimes mandatory), any late payment fees and transfer fees. By taking active control over your finances, you may find the current economic storm much easier to weather. The financial market is subject, like any other marketplace, to greater consumer power these days, and as such a smart customer can take advantage of financial deals, even when the economic future looks somewhat bleak.
